Why does Nest agree to help John Ross in the novel, A Knight of the Word?

When the Lady of the Word sends a spirit to ask Nest to help John Ross, Nest is reminded that John helped to save Nest from her father. She agrees to go because she feels that she can't let John be hurt if she has the power to help him.
