Why does Mumbi tell her story to Mugo in "Chapter 9"?

Mumbi tells her story to Mugo because he visits her hut. They talk about Wambuku at first and when Mugo tells Mumbi she is dead, Mumbi and Mugo bond. This experience makes Mumbi feel comfortable enough to share her story with Mugo.
