Why does Alex enjoy reading the Bible? What part does he not enjoy?

Alex enjoys studying the "big book" because the prison authorities allow him to listen to classical music while he reads. Alex also enjoys the first half of the bible, which deals with violence, drinking, and sex. Alex is not quite so fond of the second half, which is much more about preaching and informing him about how he could live a good life. Alex is not interested in this at all.
