Is it fair that Alex took the blame for killing the new prisoner?

While it is true that the other prisoners took part in the beating of the other man, is was indeed Alex who dealt the fatal blow. They should all share in the punishment equally, though, because there is no way to really prove who killed the man. Taking the word of convicted criminals is not a fair thing to do, as they could easily be framing Alex in order to get rid of him.
