Master Syrio, from Volaris, in Clash of Kings, is Arya's sword master. In the first book, he is killed defending Arya when the Kings Men come to capture her. He manages to hold them off long enough for her to escape. Many of her survival skills she owes to his training. She has a sword named Needle.
