Lynesse from A Clash of Kings was Jorah's former wife. When he could not make enough money to support her in the style from which she was accustomed, she left him for another. It wounded him badly and none but Daenerys has been able to touch his heart ever since. He tells Daenerys this in confidence right before he kisses her.
