Jon Snow from A Clash of Kings is the illegitimate son of Ned Stark. He is a few years younger than Robb and well loved by everyone except Catelyn Stark who sees Jon as a reminder of her husband's infidelity. Jon has a soft spot for Arya and gives her a sword named Needle. Jon joins the Night's Watch at Catelyn's urging. He does well at the Night's Watch and ends up working directly with Lord Mormont the commander of the Night's Watch. Mormont gives him the family sword, Long Claw. Later, Jon Snow must kill one of his own rangers in order to infiltrate the wildling band led by Mance Rayder. There he also becomes close with a wildling girl named, Ygritte.
