Craster from A Clash of Kings is an odious old man with more than 20 wives. His wives are also his daughters, most of them. If he has male children, he leaves them in the forest for the Others (white walkers) to take them. The Night's Watch use his home as a scouting station since he is just beyond the wall in the North. He is able to tell them that Wyman passed by and that the wildings had gone up higher into the mountain. This is where Sam meets Gilly, one of Craster's daughter/wives.
