How does the author use foreshadowing in 24 Hours?

In Chapter Twelve, Will tries to convince Cheryl to help him, as the only way he can actually do anything is to have Cheryl answer the phone when Hickey calls to assure him that everything is alright. Unfortunately, Will can't figure out a way to do this because Cheryl is afraid of Hickey and resists everything that Will has tried. This foreshadows Will's plan to force Cheryl to help.
