How does the author use foreshadowing in A Is for Alibi?

In Chapter Two, Dolan reveals that Kinsey had once been a police officer, but that she apparently did not like the rules and regulations that bound her activities, even though he believes that she is generally honest. There is a little bit of foreshadowing here, indicating that Kinsey is somewhat willing to bend the rules when it suits her to do so.
