The number one cause of Chronic Bronchitis, also known as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), is smoking. The more a person smokes, the more likely they are to develop COPD.
Second-hand smoke, air pollution, infection and allergies are all factors that can make COPD worse.
Exposure to certain gasses and fumes can also be a contributing factor.
