Josie begins to view her Nonna not as a grandmother, but to also see her as a person, a woman, who has had love in her life, mistakes in her life. It is when Josie finds out about Nonna's lover in the past that she begins to view her Nonna in a different light. In this light they are able to speak more freely and their relationship takes on a different depth.
