The depiction of the burnt theatre suggests the condition of the outside world. It portrays the mistreatment and stigmatism of mentally ill people in the 1970s, through the demeanour of which Justin shows to them. He is condescending towards them and speaks of them as if they are lesser then he is. The patients do not realy get a fairgo in their current position or have a say in what does and does not happen to them whilst in the instituion. The theatre is still usable, it's just slightly damaged, which creates a parallel with the patients. The play was opened in this setting to create a feeling of empathy, but also of uncertanity within the audience.
